PhD Fellow Kyriaki Pavlidou has been selected to participate in the 2018 IGLP Scholars Workshop, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from January 7 – 11, 2018. The IGLP Scholars Workshop, is organized by the Institute for Global Law and Policy (IGLP) at Harvard Law Schooland is hosted and sponsored by the Thailand Institute of Justice. The IGLP is a collaborative faculty effort to nurture innovative approaches to global policy and aims to provide a platform for new thinking about international legal and institutional arrangements, with particular emphasis on ideas and issues of importance to the global South. The Workshop is an intensive, regionally-focused residential program that brings together an international cohort of young doctoral scholars, post-doctoral scholars and junior faculty for intensive collaboration, mentoring, and cross-training and aims to strengthen the next generation of scholars by placing them in collaboration with their global peers as they develop innovative ideas and alternative approaches to issues of global law, economic policy, social justice and governance. During the 2018 IGLP Scholars Workshop Ms Pavlidou will present part of her research titled “The Unsocial Sociability of Social Rights”. The project argues that an economic analysis of law acted as the modus operandi in social rights cases in the Greek austerity context. It challenges such an antagonistic state of unsocial sociability in social rights protection within the neoliberal model of economic maximization and opts for a solidaristic, autonomy-based and constitutionally protected social justice.
